Aaj aapka Sarthi kehta hai…
Mann ek jagah tikta hi nahi
My mind won't stay focused
Hindi: Nissandeh mann chanchal hai aur ise vash mein karna kathin hai.
English: Yes, the mind is restless and hard to control. But with steady practice and letting go, it can be held.
Rohan, 19, a student in Kota, opens his physics book at 9 pm. At 9:02 he checks one notification. At 10:15 he is watching a reel titled "5 tips to stop wasting time on reels." He watched 40 of those, so technically he is now an expert on focus.
His roommate told him a story his grandfather used to tell. A boy named Varadaraja was so weak at studies that his teacher gave up on him. Sad, he sat by a village well and noticed deep grooves in the hard stone, made only by a soft rope sliding up and down every day. He went back to his books and, it is said, became a great Sanskrit scholar. Kavi Vrind wrote:
Rohan laughed. "So my mind is the rope and physics is the stone?" "Nahi bhai," said the roommate, "tera phone pathar hai. Use doosre kamre mein rakh." Even Arjun told Krishna his mind was harder to control than the wind. Krishna didn't scold him. He just said: practise, a little every day.
A restless mind isn't a defect. Everyone's mind is restless, even Arjun's.
- Put the phone in another room and set a 5-minute timer.
- Each week, add 1 minute.
One mala at a fixed time each day.
